Ocarina of Time Remake May Launch a Week Before GTA 6

The evidence that Nintendo is about to walk straight into GTA 6's launch window is two Kirby amiibo. Nintendo UK store listings appeared this week for the Sword Kirby and Dragoon and Noir Dedede and Hydra figures, dated 11 November, and the Reddit user who spotted them, gaysaucemage, found the date corrects to 12 November once a device clock is set to UK time. Nintendo has no announced first-party release in November. It does have one unreleased first-party game everyone knows about.

The reasoning behind the theory is a habit rather than a leak. Nintendo has taken to shipping amiibo on the same day as its own games, apparently to save on distribution, and the amiibo date often surfaces before the game's. The recent run of examples is consistent: Mineru's Construct arrived alongside Fortune's Weave, Meta Knight and Shadow Star with Pokopia, and Dedede and Tank Star with Rhythm Heaven Groove. None of those figures had anything to do with the games they shipped beside, which is the point. The pairing is logistics, not marketing.

That still leaves a gap between what the listing proves and what people want it to prove. A Wednesday release would break the Thursday pattern Nintendo has kept since the second quarter of 2024, which is why the corrected 12 November reading matters, and the post carries a Grain of Salt flag for a reason. I think the amiibo pattern is the strongest evidence available here, and it still only establishes that some Nintendo game is coming out that day rather than which one.

The Gamer noted the remake picked up its ESRB rating earlier in the week, and ratings tend not to land until a game is reasonably close to shipping, which lines up with the 2026 window the reveal trailer implied.

Then there is the thing everyone is measuring against. Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and Jason Schreier has put development at roughly 90 percent complete while saying he does not expect another delay.

Publishers have responded by emptying November. September is overloaded because of it, and the month Rockstar chose is close to bare, holding little beyond GTA 6 itself and a new Barbie game. Which makes Nintendo's apparent willingness to stand in that week look less like bravado and more like arithmetic. The alternative reading is worse for somebody else: if the 12 November game is not the Zelda remake, then some other release is being sent into that storm instead.

GTA 6 is not coming to Switch 2. Switch 2 owners will want something to play in November regardless of what happens on the other two platforms, and the overlap between an adult open world about crime and a remake of a 1998 Zelda game is small enough to ignore. Both also land close enough to the holidays to work as gifts and to keep selling into next year. I do not own a Switch 2 and GTA 6 has had my November blocked out for more than a year, so this particular collision costs me nothing, which is more or less the bet Nintendo appears to be making about everyone else.

The remake's existence is not in question. Ocarina of Time Remake and Star Fox were confirmed as Switch 2 releases through insider reporting earlier this year, with the Zelda project taking a holiday slot originally held for a new 3D Mario game now understood to be moving to 2027.

The wider strategy behind it is conservative. Nintendo has reportedly trimmed Switch 2 production against its early projections and is leaning on proven catalogue rather than new franchises for the console's first holiday season, with a classic-style Star Fox carrying online multiplayer also in that plan. What the remake actually is remains open. Reporting has described anything from a faithful one-to-one recreation in the mould of the Demon's Souls remake to a broader reimagining of the Nintendo 64 original, which still holds the highest score on Metacritic and last received a portable version on 3DS in 2011. The surrounding activity supports a bigger push: the Zelda series passed its 40th anniversary, a live-action film is dated for May 2027, and Nintendo has already put out an Ocarina of Time Lego set called The Final Battle.

So the confirmed facts are a rating, two amiibo listings and a pattern. Everything else is inference, and the inference happens to describe the funniest possible version of November: the biggest game ever made, and a week ahead of it, the game a lot of people still call the best one.
