Jason Schreier Speaks About Recent GTA 6 Leaks and Teases It Really Might Be the PC Version

The biggest story this month, maybe even the whole summer, was undoubtedly the massive GTA 6 leak, including gameplay footage Rockstar had kept under wraps this entire time. Fans now have a real sense of what the most anticipated game of 2026 looks like, and that's clearly weighing on the developers, especially since the studio still hasn't identified who's behind the ongoing leaks.

With this in mind, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier published a new article, offering a wealth of interesting detail. After speaking with Rockstar officials, Schreier confirmed the studio still hasn't pinned down who's responsible. He also described the mood inside the studio as a mix of disappointment and frustration, especially since some staff had returned to the office specifically to help prevent leaks like this, only for them to happen anyway. That said, the leak isn't expected to affect the Netflix premiere of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, still set for August 27 with no signs of a delay. You can check out more from Schreier below:

Jason Schreier shares a new GTA 6 article:

  • Rockstar’s entire management is working extensively to determine the leaker’s origin, as he still remains active
  • There are no plans to change the gameplay premiere date on August 27 or make any other immediate changes to the marketing strategy due to the leak
  • Rockstar’s leaders and employees are angry because because this is the second time the game has suffered a major leak
  • The leaker has or had access to a working build of the game and not just pre-recorded videos
  • The leak may undercut the Netflix reveal, which was supposed to be the first time that anyone saw gameplay
  • Developers are feeling frustrated and exhausted as the company called them back to the office 5 days a week and put an end to remote work to prevent more leaks, but they still happened
  • One of the company’s top executives sent out an email to the devs denouncing the leaker and promising that the incident wouldn’t detract from the excellent work they’ve done
  • Developers are continuing to work on the game, which isn’t yet finished but is getting close

According to Schreier, Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look was meant to be the first real gameplay trailer for the game, and the leak essentially spoiled that surprise. Even more interesting, though, is his claim that whoever's behind the leaks, going by Cyberleek, appears to have access to a working build of GTA 6. There had been earlier speculation the footage might have come from an unannounced PC version, based on comments from one developer on social media, and Schreier's reporting seems to back that up.

Jason Schreier: The GTA 6 leaker has access to a working build of the game, and not just prerecorded video materials…. So, that would need to be the PC build of the game since they do not have a dev kit from Rockstar.

On August 21, a sixth GTA 6 gameplay clip surfaced. Take-Two has been trying to scrub it from social media, but plenty of reposts and edits have already gone viral. The clip runs just over two minutes and shows Jason stealing a sports car in the city, driving across bridges, and ending up in one of Vice City's neighborhoods. Like the leaks before it, this one looks noticeably better graphically, and it increasingly feels like each new clip is showing a more recent build of GTA 6.
