GTA 6 Multiplayer Is Rumored to Feature 32-Player Lobbies and Currently Rockstar’s Top Secret

In just under two months, GTA 6, the most anticipated game of the year, launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Like its predecessor, it's expected to have its own online mode, likely bigger and more advanced than before, but a new report suggests Rockstar is keeping details firmly under wraps for now.

As revealed via GTA Boom, a private Discord channel belonging to British trade union IWGB revealed GTA 6 Online will support lobbies of up to 32 players, and court documents from a hearing in Edinburgh reportedly described Rockstar's approach to the sixth installment's multiplayer as treating it like a closely guarded secret. Beyond that, though, the report doesn't offer much else.

Court filings from the ongoing UK tribunal show staff discussing an “online 32 player format” during internal testing. Rockstar’s lawyers described the number as one of the company’s “most closely guarded secrets.”

That matches today’s GTA Online lobby size, but it doesn’t confirm the final player cap.

Rockstar Games hasn't shared any official multiplayer details as part of its marketing campaign so far, and it's already been reported that online won't be available at launch this November. According to Forbes, GTA 6 Online might not arrive for a year or two after release, likely due to the sheer scale of the game, the time Rockstar needs to get the mode up to standard, and the fact that GTA Online is still generating significant revenue on its own. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously confirmed GTA Online will keep receiving updates even after GTA 6 launches, which lines up with everything mentioned above.
