New Installments of Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls Could Become Xbox Exclusives in the Future
This summer, Microsoft confirmed that at least two of its upcoming projects—specifically Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution—are Xbox exclusives and will not release on PlayStation 5. However, a new report reveals that even bigger gaming franchises could become Xbox exclusives in the near future.
According to a new Bloomberg report, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma plans to attract a broader audience to Xbox consoles by focusing on exclusivity for upcoming single-player titles. These could include future games from franchises such as Halo, Fallout, and even The Elder Scrolls. Meanwhile, multiplayer games will continue to be released across all platforms. Furthermore, another report states that Microsoft intends to further expand the Minecraft universe. According to Windows Central, the company is also planning to integrate Xbox services with Mojang in order to retain as many users as possible.
If future installments of Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls become Xbox exclusives, it would undoubtedly give the company a huge advantage. After all, this could attract a significant number of PlayStation users, especially considering that Sony plans to stop releasing physical disc games in the coming years —a decision that has already left a lot of gamers disappointed.
Regarding future projects within the above-mentioned franchises, Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original game that came out in 2001, will release this month. It was recently reported that the rights to the game series might be transferred to Activision as part of Microsoft's restructuring efforts, but so far this has not happened. Furthermore, rumors suggest that Halo Studios canceled a multiplayer game set in the universe, titled Project Ekur; however, the studio is reportedly working on an MMOFPS similar to Destiny 2.
Speaking of Fallout, there isn't much news: the fifth installment is in the early stages of development, and Bethesda Game Studios is also developing Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remakes. Similarly, work continues on The Elder Scrolls VI, but a release isn't expected anytime soon. According to a recent report by Jason Schreier, the game won't be coming out for the next few years —and possibly even later.
