Keeper Comes to PS5 Nearly a Year After Original Launch
Double Fine Productions surprised fans during today’s Sony State of Play livestream by unveiling and simultaneously releasing a PlayStation 5 version of its surreal adventure game Keeper. The port appeared on the PlayStation Store immediately after the trailer aired, without any prior announcement of a release date.
Keeper was originally released in October 2025 exclusively on PC and Xbox Series X/S as an Xbox Game Studios in-house title. This atmospheric, wordless adventure invites players to control a living lighthouse that travels across a post-human island alongside a small companion bird named Twig, fending off a destructive force known as the Wither.
A year after its release, the game continues to receive high ratings. On Steam, the game has a “Very Positive” rating about 91% of over 1,000 reviews are positive, and recent reviews show an even higher rate about 97% positive over the last 30 days, indicating that the game continues to win over new fans even a year after its release and is not losing popularity. However, many who have completed the game share a common complaint: its short playtime (most players finish it in three to four hours). Many believe that the $30 price tag is too high for such a short playtime, even given the game’s high production quality.
Today’s surprise release on PS5 gives the game a new chance to reach players who missed it the first time around. The game is now available for purchase on the PS Store. As a reminder, the game's release had been predicted even before the State of Play began.
