New Resident Evil Movie Footage Revealed at State of Play

A new film based on the Resident Evil franchise is set to premiere this month. It will be directed by Zach Cregger, known for his work on films such as Weapons and Barbarian, and an extended clip—previously shown in trailers—has been released, showcasing what is likely one of the most spectacular scenes in the upcoming film.

As you know, Sony held its State of Play presentation today, focusing on upcoming titles for the PlayStation 5 and games from third-party studios. It came as a surprise to many that the Resident Evil movie kicked off the presentation: the audience was shown a nearly three-minute clip from the film, in which the main character, Brian (Austin Abrams), runs through the city streets while infected enemies fall from above. As is well known, the upcoming Resident Evil adaptation is not based on any of the video games—director Zach Cregger has taken an unconventional approach by setting the events of the Raccoon City incident in 2026. The plot follows Brian, a delivery worker who must transport an unusual and extremely important shipment amid the spread of an unknown infection. The film will also feature first-person footage, and its cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Kali Reis, Zach Cherry, and Johnno Wilson.

Zach Cregger's Resident Evil premieres September 18.
