Blizzard Teases New StarCraft Ahead of BlizzCon 2026

With BlizzCon 2026 just days away (September 12–13), the official StarCraft website has started glitching out — images flickering, text blinking on and off and fans are already convinced it's a deliberate teaser for a new game in the StarCraft universe.

The page, which is still running ads for StarCraft Remastered, has turned into a bit of a mess images flashing on and off, text blocks popping in and out, video players jumping around the screen like something's short-circuiting. It has all the hallmarks of one of Blizzard's classic ARG-style teasers, the same kind of trick the studio pulled during the months-long saga around Overwatch's Sombra.

Adding fuel to the fire, South Korean outlet Chosun reported a few days ago that publisher Nexon is close to finalizing a deal to develop a new StarCraft game or possibly even secure an exclusive license for the entire series.

There's another thread running through this whole thing, too. Word has it Blizzard's been quietly working on its own StarCraft shooter since 2024, with former Far Cry producer Dan Hay steering the ship. Check his LinkedIn and he's still listed as a Blizzard employee, so it's safe to say the project hasn't been shelved. And it doesn't stop there the studio has also been hiring for a "lead designer of innovation" to work on an open-world shooter in Unreal Engine, along with an engineer who specializes in vehicle simulation.

A few other small hints are circulating online too:

• This year's BlizzCon digital goodies include a 15-day XP boost for Commanders in StarCraft 2's co-op mode.
• Blizzard recently shipped a major patch for StarCraft 2.

On top of that, fans digging through the official BlizzCon 2026 schedule spotted something interesting: on the first day, September 12, there's an unexplained one-hour gap in the main stage lineup. Many believe that's exactly where a new StarCraft reveal would slot in.

That said, according to PC Gamer, the BlizzCon venue map doesn't show any area set aside for StarCraft, so even if an announcement happens, attendees probably won't get a playable demo.

Neither Blizzard nor Nexon has confirmed anything officially. But taken together — the glitching website, the Nexon rumors, years of work on an in-house shooter, the mysterious schedule gap, and the small hints in the merch — fans have plenty of reason to expect a major StarCraft announcement right at BlizzCon's opening ceremony on September 12 at 10:30 AM PT.
