Death Stranding Film Brings in Ari Aster and A24 — A Psychological Horror in the Making
Ari Aster will serve as one of the producers of the Death Stranding film adaptation — a move that may hint at Kojima Productions and A24 working on a full-fledged horror movie.
Following the recent news that filmmaker Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One) will direct the adaptation, it's now been confirmed that the production will be handled by Square Peg. Through this company, both Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary) and Lars Knudsen (producer of Hereditary, Midsommar, and The Witch) have joined the project.
Death Stranding gained widespread popularity, making it clear that A24 may be aiming for more mainstream appeal. However, it’s worth noting that the studio initially built its reputation on auteur-driven horror films. This suggests that the upcoming adaptation will likely lean into the horror elements of the game. There’s even speculation that the film could feature numerous nods to the canceled P.T. project.
According to the official synopsis, the story will dive into the mysteries surrounding the “Death Stranding” — a series of cataclysmic events that blurred the line between the world of the living and the dead, unleashing terrifying creatures.
Whether Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley will reprise their roles remains unknown. No filming date has been announced yet. For now, all we can do is wait for more details — and hope the film captures the haunting atmosphere of the original game.
