Onimusha: Way of the Sword Sold 1 Million Copies on Launch Day, Capcom Reveals
On September 4, Capcom released Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the latest entry in the series and its first since 2006. Much like earlier this year, the studio's managed to land another critically acclaimed hit, and Way of the Sword is already showing strong signs of commercial success as well.
Capcom shared the game's strong performance in its latest financial report, revealing the new installment sold 1 million copies on launch day alone (September 4), with numbers likely climbing since. The company also confirmed total franchise sales have now crossed 10 million copies, thanks largely to the new release.

Onimusha series sales have now surpassed 10 million units.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword currently sits at 85 on Metacritic, with critics praising its combat system, engaging story, and charismatic protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi. The game's also off to a strong start on Steam, with nearly 90% positive reviews and peak concurrent players recently topping 85,000.
Interestingly, another recent release has posted similarly strong numbers. The Blood of Dawnwalker, the debut title from Rebel Wolves, the studio founded by former Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developers, crossed 1 million copies sold just two days after launch.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
