GTA 6 Mini-Map Details Explained: Enterable Buildings, GPS, Waypoints, and More

The GTA 6 gameplay footage released late last month finally gave us an official look at what the most anticipated game of 2026 will look like. One of the many changes and details that caught people’s attention is the game’s mini-map, and now, more detailed information has emerged about the options players will have when interacting with it in GTA 6.

As is well known, in GTA 6, players will be able to visit a huge number of buildings, each of which is reportedly set to feature a unique interior. To save players the trouble of figuring out which buildings they can enter, it has been revealed that they will be highlighted on the minimap with a special white icon. During the Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look presentation, they were barely noticeable, as you can see below, but it’s possible that this feature will be further refined in the final version.

The mini-map seems to show which buildings are actually enterable.

You can see what look like entrances appearing on the 3D buildings as the player gets closer, which could make it way easier to tell where you can actually go inside.

Additionally, other, more detailed information has emerged about how the mini-map will work in GTA 6. As could be seen in the leaked gameplay videos, it displays the iFruit logo—the in-game equivalent of the iPhone—and essentially functions as a GPS, changing color depending on the time of day and the surroundings. It has also been revealed that, by default, the mini-map isn’t displayed continuously unless the player is behind the wheel, but this setting can be changed in the game options. You also don't need to open the map to set waypoints—you can do this by pressing the D-pad, selecting the required location, and setting the waypoint with R3. It was previously reported that police won’t appear on the mini-map; however, your allies will be shown on it (in blue or pink), and NPCs—for instance, during a race—will be shown in white. That said, locations you need to reach during story missions will be marked in pink, while user-defined locations will be marked in blue.

For now, you can also find out everything we know about GTA 6 so far—the story, gameplay, map, open world, platforms, and more - as well as how GTA 6 is reshaping the 2026 game calendar and everything about GTA 6 pre-order details: price, bonuses, exact time, and Ultimate Edition.
