Biggest Announcements and Reveals from State of Play
Sony's latest State of Play came to an end. As expected, it covered upcoming projects from PlayStation Studios along with several third-party titles, including genuine surprise announcements.
A handful of next year's most anticipated games also picked up confirmed release dates, and based on what came out of the show, at least one month of 2027 is already looking packed with major releases. Below you will find out the biggest announcements and reveals from the presentation.
GTA 6-Themed DualSense
Not many expected GTA 6 to show up at State of Play, especially right after last week's Netflix gameplay reveal. Sony still found room for it, confirming a limited-edition DualSense controller styled after the game. Pre-orders open next week (September 10), priced at $85, five dollars more than the game's standard edition.
Metro 2039, Until Dawn 2 and Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Dates
Several major titles finally got their long-awaited release dates, backed by new trailers. Firesprite confirmed Until Dawn 2, the new PS5 exclusive, is set for January 28, 2027. 4A Games also released a new Metro 2039 trailer, captured on PlayStation 5 Pro, confirming the shooter launches February 4 that same year. Final Fantasy VII Revelation got a release date of April 8, and Square Enix also revealed a new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance.
Crimson Desert’s DLC Announcement - Charting The Unknown
Pearl Abyss finally revealed the first footage from Crimson Desert's upcoming DLC, Charting the Unknown. New features include sailing your own ship, underwater exploration, building structures, and romance options. The DLC is set to launch on October 15.
Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition – Most Wanted Mode Gameplay
Sucker Punch dropped a new trailer for Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, announced earlier this summer. The trailer centers on Most Wanted, a single-player survival mode with roguelike elements, letting players take on characters beyond protagonist Atsu, including Oyuki, Nagato, and Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima.
Marvel’s Wolverine Launch Trailer
Ahead of its release, Insomniac Games unveiled a launch trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, showing Logan, with help from allies including Mystique and Jean Grey, fighting robotic enemies called the Reavers, under the control of the game's main villain, Bolivar Trask. The game launches September 15, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
Multiple Konami Announcements
Konami had a few announcements of its own, showing a new trailer for upcoming JRPG, Rev. NOiR, coming next year to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5, and unveiling Rhapsody in Scarlet, an action game about mages set in 1920s New York.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance First Gameplay
Capcom also showed up with a detailed gameplay breakdown of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the next major expansion for last year's action RPG, teasing intense battles both on the ground and in the air. No exact release date yet, but it's confirmed for next year on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2.
Saros’ New Update, Zenith
Housemarque, which released PS5 exclusive Saros this spring, announced a new free update called Zenith, adding an online mode, Overlord Rush, along with Eclipse Layers, a New Game+ mode with new modifiers, secrets, and trophies.
Maneater 2 Announcement
In a genuine surprise, Tripwire Interactive showed up to unveil Maneater 2, the sequel to 2020's shark-focused original. Like before, players take on the role of the predator, wreaking havoc across an open-world theme park. It's set to release in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
As for other announcements at State of Play, Polyphony Digital revealed Gran Turismo 7 is getting a "Spec IV" update, adding 12 new cars and bringing back the Autumn Ring track from the original game. Gundam Rogue Orbit, previously announced at Summer Game Fest, got a new trailer and a confirmed release date of March 5 next year. Three indie titles, Hunter's Moon, Uncanyon, and Keeper, were confirmed for PlayStation 5, with Keeper already available. PS Plus Classic also added four games: Mega Man X: Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, Ratchet & Clank, and Mycopunk. Finally, the show revealed a new clip from the upcoming Resident Evil adaptation, directed by Zach Cregger.
