Marvel's Wolverine gets a new State of Play trailer featuring Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, and more
Sony is holding a State of Play on September 3, 2026, and the second project shown was Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games. With release just weeks away, the game is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, making this new trailer one of the last major showcases before launch.
The new teaser shows Logan fighting against the Reavers, a cybernetic mercenary gang armed with advanced technology and combat implants. The Reavers kidnap mutants and hand them over to their employer — Bolivar Trask, a billionaire industrialist who believes in human superiority over mutants.

The teaser also gave players a look at large-scale battles against entire squads of Reavers — flying fighters in purple-and-silver armor equipped with jetpacks and energy weapons. These appear set to become the main "rank-and-file" enemies throughout the game.
Besides the Reavers, the footage also included iconic characters familiar from the films, as well as ones previously known only from the X-Men comics:
Jean Grey — Logan's key ally, a powerful telepathic mutant and leader among the hunted mutants.

Sabretooth — whom Logan is clashing with yet again.

Mystique — who will also side with the mutants.

Omega Red — a villain who hasn't appeared in Logan's films before, but has long been a foe of the X-Men in the comics.

The new trailer makes it clear that Insomniac went for brutal, bloody combat, a significant departure from the tone of their Spider-Man games. Every successful hit, parry, or kill fills Logan's Rage meter, letting him unleash stronger attacks. Push the rage far enough, and players can trigger Rage Tier 3 — a stylized, black-and-white explosive slaughter inspired by the Black, White, and Blood comic.
Other footage teased additional surroundings, locations, and unidentified figures attacking Logan, along with the game's main antagonist, Bolivar Trask, against whom the mutants will be fighting.

As a reminder, in the previous trailer, the developers focused on the game's skills and features. Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026, with the standard edition priced at $69.99. A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available for $79.99, including five exclusive suits, five claw sets, and extra technique points (cosmetic bonuses). Marvel's Wolverine is available for pre-order starting September 3.
