Resident Evil 5 Remake Is Inevitable But Capcom Isn’t Planning to Make It Quick
Amid the news about upcoming Resident Evil remakes—including the confirmed Resident Evil Veronica, announced at Summer Game Fest, as well as others Capcom hasn't officially revealed yet—the belief that Resident Evil 5 will get an enhanced version keeps growing, even though Capcom doesn't seem to have plans for a remake in the next couple of years.
Dusk Golem, a well-known Resident Evil insider, recently confirmed that a remake of the original Resident Evil had already reached pre-production last year, with full-scale development potentially starting next year, around the time Resident Evil Veronica comes out. Capcom's main team, meanwhile, is believed to be building Resident Evil Zero from scratch, and that project is reportedly set for 2028. Another franchise insider, Marcox, thinks Capcom might release the Resident Evil 5 remake sooner than people expect, since the game ties closely into Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker's stories, and into the events of Resident Evil Veronica. Marcox also believes this remake could end with a new scene setting up Wesker's return in Resident Evil 10, as you can see below:
“Sooner or later, Capcom will have to make a remake of the fifth installment, and it may be sooner than we expect. Completing Veronica's story on the new engine will be linked to the fifth installment. Completing Chris and Wesker's story, modifying the ending, and creating an ending that allows Wesker to return to the events and provides logical reasons for his appearance in the tenth installment is inevitable. Capcom will never be able to ignore this installment, and you will remember what I am telling you.”
Despite that bold prediction, Dusk Golem has confirmed again that Capcom currently has no plans to remake Resident Evil 5. He did add, though, that fans will likely want an updated version of the 2009 game more and more once the other remakes come out—and Capcom will find those requests harder to ignore if the remakes keep selling well.
Not in production at all right now & Capcom at present doesn't have much interest in doing it.
I suspect after Veronica, Zero, & RE:1 Remakes that the fan demand for a RE5 Remake will get louder, to a point Capcom will not ignore it though, especially if remakes keep selling.
Capcom is also working on a story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, which Dusk Golem teases will be massive, much like the expansions planned for the franchise's other new projects. As for Resident Evil Veronica, the studio's next release in the series, it's confirmed for 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
