Capcom Restarted Resident Evil Zero Remake Development and Planning to Release It In 2028

Despite the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica —a remake of the original 2000's video game Resident Evil: Code Veronica—this isn't the only project in the franchise currently in active development, as Capcom has also restarted work on the Resident Evil Zero remake.

There had been rumors about a possible remake release, but most of these were just insider reports that Capcom had recently started working on the game. However, it now seems that this is not the case. In particular, insider Dusk Golem has revealed that Capcom restarted development of the Resident Evil Zero remake midway through production. As a result, the project is now being led by the studio’s main team, as you can see below:

In particular, many fans were disappointed by the fact that, like the remake of the third installment, Resident Evil Zero Remake is being developed by external studios. This is known to be the main reason why the game was received less favorably compared to, say, the Resident Evil 2 remake—several original features were cut, the gameplay was shorter, and the Nemesis’s actions were mostly scripted. However, Capcom seems to have learned from these mistakes, as Resident Evil Veronica is being developed by the same team behind the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes.

As for Resident Evil Zero, the original game was released in 2002 and serves as a prequel to the entire series. Its main protagonists are Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen, and the story revolves around the origins of the T-virus and various schemes involving the Umbrella Corporation. The upcoming remake does not yet have an exact release date, but Capcom is aiming to launch the game in 2028. Furthermore, insider Marcox claims that the studio has also moved the remake of the very first Resident Evil title into full production.
