Blizzard Announces Diablo V, Release Date Set for 2029

Before BlizzCon 2026 began, fans were expecting a new DLC for Diablo IV. However, unexpectedly, during the opening ceremony, Blizzard officially announced Diablo V and provided an approximate release date for the game.

No exact date yet, just a target: 2029. So there's still a solid three-year wait ahead.

The short teaser sets a grim tone from the first frame, and for good reason. Every prior game had heroes racing to stop Sanctuary from falling to demons. This time, they lost.

Blizzard put it bluntly on stage: "The heroes are gone, Sanctuary has fallen, and Diablo has won. For the first time, you won't be fighting to stop Diablo from taking Sanctuary. You'll enter a world where he already has. There are no towns or safe places waiting to protect you."

Diablo turns 30 this year, and the whole ceremony was built around that milestone. Same day, same stage: Diablo IV landed a Nintendo Switch 2 port, Deckard Cain came back for the new Hell's Legacy season, and the Amazon class got confirmed for Diablo IV in 2027.

Even against all that, Diablo V was the one nobody saw coming. No leaks, no insider chatter pointed to a full sequel beforehand — the assumption going in was another expansion, not a new numbered entry.

Beyond the trailer, details are scarce. No gameplay, no setting specifics, no characters. Just the announcement, and a long wait. In addition, a wide range of new content and upcoming projects were announced at the presentation.
