Capcom Is Planning to Make Massive DLCs for Resident Evil Titles
As you know, besides Resident Evil Veronica—a remake of the original 2000 game announced last month at Summer Game Fest—Capcom is actively working on a story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem. This game has become an incredible success for the studio this year, becoming the fastest-selling title in the franchise's history. While details and the release date for the DLC remain unknown, it seems we can expect something truly massive.
At least, that's what a new report from insider Dusk Golem suggests. On his X page, he revealed that Capcom plans to develop large-scale DLCs for the franchise's games, not only to fill the gap between the releases of remakes and new titles but also to significantly expand the universe's lore. You can check out more detailed information from Dusk Golem on this matter below:
“I want to share something I heard which I think is really interesting, Resident Evil related.
Capcom is investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE, of the length & ambition as Separate Ways/Shadow of Rose, for both Requiem & future RE titles. There's a few reasons for this. I also keep hearing that Resident Evil Requiem's DLC is going to release after Veronica Remake releases. Capcom's had an issue in recent years in the RE Engine era with side games, like Revelations, the Chronicles, or Survivor games. Apparently this is something of a temporary solution Capcom is employing, investing in longer story DLCs for their RE games which work as smaller, more experimental "side stories" for the franchise. It also will help fill their schedule of releases in-between the bigger RE games.”
Dusk Golem has once again confirmed his earlier statement that the story DLC for Requiem will not be released this year, as many had expected, but rather in 2027, following the launch of Resident Evil Veronica. This seems to indirectly suggest that the expansion will be quite substantial. Moreover, according to the leaker, who previously predicted the plot of the main game, the game will feature two story expansions —one dedicated to Leon S. Kennedy and Alyssa Ashcroft, and the other to Chris Redfield and Ada Wong.
Speaking of Resident Evil Veronica, it has been confirmed that the remake will release in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2, although the exact release date remains unknown. Recently, rumors have also surfaced that Leon S. Kennedy might appear in the game to establish a connection to Resident Evil Requiem, and that Resident Evil Veronica will feature a 30-minute demo version. Additionally, Capcom is working on a Resident Evil Zero remake, which, according to unofficial information, will launch in 2028.
For now, the release date of Resident Evil Requiem's story DLC remains unknown.
