Insider Confirms Resident Evil 1 Remake Has Entered Pre-Production Stage Last Year
In recent years, Capcom has released several remakes of classic Resident Evil titles that have already become fan favorites—especially Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. And the studio is seemingly set to continue on this path; not only is Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the original 2000 Resident Evil Code: Veronica, set to launch next year, but the developers are also currently working on an enhanced version of the original title.
Well-known franchise insider Dusk Golem shared some updated information about the Resident Evil 1 Remake on his X profile. While communicating with other users, he revealed that the remake had entered the pre-production stage around August-September of last year, and that by the time Resident Evil Veronica is released, the game could already be in active development, as you can see below:
“Yes, it started early production nearly a year ago (I hear last August-September is when it started pre-production), it'll probably enter full production after Resident Evil Veronica is finished with its crunch period it's in right now.
Pre-production is usually when a small prototype is being made & concept planning is happening, figuring out core features with a smaller team. It's not work on the final game form, but building its foundation. When it enters full production is when a lot more people are put onto a project, they start working on the assets for the final game (audio, 3D models, artwork, level design, coding), and starting to develop based on what's in the plan formed in pre-production.”
Unfortunately, insider did not provide any information about a possible release date for the Resident Evil 1 remake. However, we can make some conclusions based on what do we know so far, according to official and unofficial information. It is known that Resident Evil Veronica, the next franchise remake, will release sometime in 2027. According to Dusk Golem, after that, Capcom plans to launch a story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, followed by a remake of Resident Evil Zero in 2028. Therefore, Capcom might release the remake of the original Resident Evil in 2029 or even 2030, but at this point, this is nothing more than speculation.
As for Capcom's upcoming releases in the series, Resident Evil Veronica will launch next year for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The exact release date is currently unknown.
