Remedy Called Control Resonant Studio’s Best Game So Far and Shared New Details
Control Resonant is one of the most anticipated and biggest video games releasing this autumn. As we know, it is also the most ambitious project Remedy Entertainment has ever made, which means the stakes have never been higher.
Recently, Mikael Kasurinen, the game's creative director, spoke with MinnMax and made several important statements. Specifically, he called Control Resonant the best game Remedy has made so far and revealed a wealth of information about its features (storyline, gameplay, graphics, its connection to the wider universe, and more), as well as the development process, which you can check out below:
- About 90 developers have been working on the game, which has been in development for seven years—it's Remedy's most complex project to date.
- Kasurinen confirms that Control Resonant is an RPG, although it lacks some typical genre elements. Players will need to gather resources to unlock new abilities and weapons. Dylan, for instance, uses only melee weapons, and the combat system is inspired by Doom (2016) and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
- The game's storyline is much longer than that of the original. Additionally, the locations are truly expansive, allowing players to explore various areas in search of valuable items.
- Control Resonant takes place in New York, with the city affected by mystical events. In the wider world, the city is considered nonexistent, but certain departments exist in isolated parts of the world to monitor objects of power.
- Besides the main story missions, the game includes side quests that unlock special rewards.
- At any point in the game, players can use gravity mechanics—for both navigating specific levels and gathering resources.
- Dylan can change hairstyles and purchase various items from shops.
- There will be only one "normal" difficulty level, but, as in the original game, gameplay customization options will be available, such as one-hit kills or invincibility.
- The game contains many hints about the franchise's potential future, including TV and film adaptations, as well as connections to other projects in the franchise. Moreover, there will be numerous plot twists near the end of the game.
- While playing the original game is recommended, it is not necessary—Control Resonant is accessible to newcomers as well.
One of the most intriguing comments from Mikael Kasurinen relates to potential teasers about the franchise's future, including possible adaptations and connections to other projects. As we know, Remedy Entertainment is collaborating with Annapurna Interactive to develop movie and TV adaptations of Alan Wake and Control. It's quite possible that in Control Resonant, we'll see something like early footage related to these projects, especially considering how much the studio enjoys teasing its upcoming releases. This approach is not new—for example, Alan Wake 2 had a DLC titled Lake House, which featured initial scenes from Control Resonant long before the game was officially announced. Speaking of links to previous projects, who knows—Alan Wake himself might even make an appearance in some form within the game.
By the way, Remedy has previously discussed the possibility of a third Control installment but stated that it depends on the success of Control Resonant. Additionally, the studio is also working on remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, which are now in full production, as well as a new IP that is currently in the concept phase.
Control Resonant will release on September 24 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
