Dave Bautista Reveals His Preparation for Kratos’ Role in the God of War TV Series

Last month, it was officially announced Dave Bautista, a former WWE wrestler best known for playing Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in Amazon's upcoming God of War adaptation. That happened after Hurst suffered an injury during filming. Now the new Kratos’ actor has shared a glimpse into how his physical training is going.

As revealed via DiscussingFilm, citing the actor's own social media, 57-year-old Bautista posted a new video showing how he's started preparing for the role. He mentioned he's already three weeks into training and needs roughly two more months to get into shape. You can check out the full post with the original video below:

Bautista's update seems to confirm the God of War premiere is getting pushed back, given that filming on the series is currently paused. With at least two more months of prep still needed before he's ready to play Kratos, filming will likely pick back up toward the end of the year. The show was originally targeting a 2027 premiere, but that now looks likely to slip by a year, though that's still speculation for now.

However, franchise fans won't have to wait that long to return to the universe, as God of War: Laufey, a new installment centered on Kratos's wife, as the title suggests, is set to release February 12 exclusively on PlayStation 5. It's been confirmed the story runs parallel to God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarök, set in a counterpart realm, Everywhen, the gods' transcendent afterlife. God of War Trilogy Remake is also in development, officially announced at February's State of Play, though its release date remains unknown.
