Insider Revealed New Details About Resident Evil Veronica—Unexpected Playable Character, Crafting, and More

Last month, after numerous rumors and speculations, Capcom finally announced the remake of the 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica, which is now titled Resident Evil Veronica. This announcement kicked off the Summer Game Fest presentation, but since then, the studio has revealed little information about the upcoming project, which is scheduled to release next year.

Meanwhile, on his X page, insider Marcox shared some new details about Resident Evil Veronica —specifically about how Capcom has improved the physics of the RE Engine and updated the crafting system; the scooper also revealed details about one of the locations in the game, enemy encounters, and confirmed that the game will include a “Prequel Mini-Campaign” featuring an unexpected playable character. Based on his post, this character is likely either Alfred Ashford or Albert Wesker, as you can check out below:

A hidden, coded file named ASH_MEM_00 was spotted in the Veronica remake; this code confirms that Capcom designed a short prequel mini-campaign in which you will play as a completely unexpected character.

Speaking about other possible Resident Evil Veronica details, as mentioned above, Marcox claims that Claire Redfield will be able to craft weapons and ammunition at a special workbench by extracting acids from the blood of zombies and other enemies. She can also combine these acids with arrows, making them effective against the armor of special hunter-type monsters. Thus, these various liquids and the red jacket of Claire will “feel the consequences” of the effects from different chemical reagents, as well as blood and dirt—these marks can remain visible on her jacket throughout the entire game.

Marcox also added that Capcom did some significant jobs on shooting mechanics and level design in Resident Evil Veronica. For instance, he mentioned that firing in narrow corridors would cause the walls to vibrate and glass storage containers to fall, forcing players to quickly deal with sleeping hunter monsters. Additionally, one of the laboratories in the game will resemble a maze, dimly lit by a red light. Claire will need to activate a chemical drainage system to disinfect the corridors contaminated with the T-Veronica virus, and only then she will be able to move further.

For now, none of these reports are confirmed, so this should be considered with a grain of salt.
