Supercell Responds to Hero Journey Backlash in Clash of Clans
Supercell’s June 2026 update for Clash of Clans arrived with plenty of major additions, including a new Troop, a new Spell, several quality-of-life improvements, and the long-awaited return of Global Chat. However, not every part of the update was received positively, as the introduction of Hero Journey quickly sparked frustration among active players.
Following community backlash, Supercell has now responded to concerns surrounding Hero Journey, explaining how the system was intended to work and addressing a bug that affected player rewards.
Supercell Addresses Hero Journey Rewards Bug
One of the biggest issues involved a bug that caused some Hero Journey rewards to appear as already claimed, even though players had not actually received them.
According to Supercell, all missing rewards will be sent to affected players soon. This includes:
- Skins
- Resources
- Ores
- Magic Items
- Quest rewards
As additional compensation, affected players will also receive a one-time reward package containing:
- 2,000 Shiny Ore
- 50 Glowy Ore
- 10 Starry Ore
Why Players Received Different Migration Rewards
Supercell also clarified why players at the same Town Hall level received different rewards during the migration process.
According to the developers, Town Hall level alone was not the only factor. The system also considered:
- Total Hero levels
- Ownership of Epic Equipment
- Current Equipment levels
This means two players with the same Town Hall level could receive different migration rewards depending on their Hero and Equipment progression.
Hero Journey Was Designed as a Catch-Up System
Supercell explained that Hero Journey was not created as a direct fix for the game’s ore economy. Instead, it was designed as a catch-up mechanic for newer and returning players.
The system primarily targets two types of players:
- Those who never had access to Epic Equipment
- Those whose Epic Equipment levels were too low for their current Town Hall
Supercell also revealed that, as of February 2026, nearly 40% of players did not own a single piece of Epic Equipment.
How the Migration System Worked
The Hero Journey migration process happened in two stages.
First, the system awarded Epic Equipment based on a player’s Hero Journey milestones.
Then, if an account still lacked enough usable Epic Equipment for its Town Hall level, the system added extra levels to some existing Equipment.
This explains why some players received completely new Equipment, while others only received level upgrades.
Ore Chest Rewards Were Not Included in Migration
Another major complaint focused on missing ore chest rewards from Hero Journey quests.
Supercell clarified that these rewards were never meant to be granted automatically during migration. Instead, quest nodes and ore chests are intended to be earned manually over time by upgrading Heroes and completing Hero Journey objectives.
This is also why many maxed players felt they had fewer future rewards available. Since their accounts were placed further along the Hero Journey track, fewer quest nodes remained ahead of them.
Supercell Says More Progression Improvements Are Needed
While explaining the system, Supercell acknowledged that the ore economy still needs further work. The developers described Hero Journey as one step toward improving progression, rather than a complete solution.
For now, the update remains a controversial addition. While Hero Journey may help newer and returning players catch up faster, many active players are still waiting to see how Supercell will address the broader progression and ore economy issues in future updates.
