God of War Laufey Might Bring Back Baldur from God of War (2018)

The main announcement of the recent State of Play show was God of War Laufey —a spin-off featuring Faye as the main character, which had long been rumored. Santa Monica Studio presented over 20 minutes of gameplay and also confirmed that the events of the game take place in a location called Everywhen—the transcendent afterlife realm of the gods.

As the first gameplay of God of War Laufey showed, in Everywhen you can encounter various divine beings; for instance, Faye meets the Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and the Mongol/Tibetan deity Begtse, and her companions in the game will be a cosmic cube named Phranque and an enchanted ribbon guardian, Rue. And the presence of divine beings, given the canon of this unusual world, could bring a familiar character back to the screens.

We are talking about the main villain of God of War (2018), Baldur, who literally "stole the show" in the game. As industry insider AlexFromCC from The Cosmic Circus noted, Baldur is a god, and his original goal in the original game was to find Faye. Thus, we may get one of the most anticipated and epic battles in God of War Laufey.

Hear me out:

If God of War Laufey takes place in the afterlife of the Gods, and the game occurs concurrently with the events of the 2018 game, imagine if near the end of the game, we get a confrontation between Faye and Baldur. Faye was Baldur’s original target in the first game.

After the game's announcement at State of Play, the developers from Santa Monica Studio, namely the game director Ariel Lawrence and the studio's creative director Cory Barlog, revealed that the decision to make Faye the main character of the new God of War installment would significantly expand the franchise's lore and show her from a new perspective. Judging by the fans' reaction, this approach suits them quite well, but there were also those who were not satisfied. For instance, the franchise's creator, David Jaffe, who did not hesitate to state that the game "looks like sh*t" and gave an unfavorable forecast regarding its sales. Fans quickly reacted to his statement, calling him a harsh and envious critic.
