As for new gameplay details of Control Resonant, senior level designer Arhi Makkonen covered new details in a recent interview. The game is confirmed as an action-RPG, a shift from the first game's action-adventure style, with replayability as one of its key pillars. According to Makkonen, protagonist Dylan won't have access to every ability in a single playthrough, though points can be redistributed anytime, and a New Game+ mode will let players unlock whatever they missed the first time around. Makkonen also confirmed there's no traditional day-night cycle, with the focus instead on making each area feel distinct. He emphasized players don't need to have finished the earlier games in the universe, Control and Alan Wake 2, since Resonant will include documents and other secrets tying back to those stories for anyone curious.
Control Resonant will release on September 24 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
