Nintendo announces a limited edition Switch 2 for The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary

Nintendo has officially unveiled a limited edition Nintendo Switch 2 in The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition design. The console was announced today, September 8, during a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the series' anniversary.

The console itself got a unique look: black body with dark green side grips on the Joy-Con. The back panel features a triangular pattern in gold and gray tones, a direct reference to the Triforce, the artifact from The Legend of Zelda series, though here the symbol is broken up into geometric pieces rather than shown as a whole. The "Nintendo Switch 2" logo is done in a simple silver font with no extra decoration.

Three accessories in the same style are launching alongside the console:

Pro Controller – the same black-and-gold triangular design, a green grip, and the full Triforce crest shown intact on the panel.

Carrying Case & Screen Protector – a dark case with a large gold Triforce, containing three smaller symbols inside, likely representing the goddesses of Hyrule.

Exclusive Pro Controller + display stand bundle – sold only through the Nintendo Store online and at two physical locations: Nintendo New York and Nintendo San Francisco.

The whole lineup releases on October 29, 2026. That's a week ahead of the game itself, the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which was also announced during the Nintendo Direct. It hits shelves on November 5, so players wanting to play it on the limited edition console will have a week to grab one first. Pricing for the console and accessories hasn't been revealed yet.
