Santa Monica Studio Announced God of War Laufey – Game Series Spin-Off Dedicated to Faye

After numerous rumors that had started months earlier, at the recent State of Play event, a new installment of God of War was officially announced - specifically, a spin-off dedicated to Faye called God of War Laufey.

Despite previously known details leaked by insiders, God of War Laufey turned out to be the main project at the June State of Play, as more than 20 minutes of gameplay were shown to players. During it, it was confirmed that the events of the game take place essentially both simultaneously with God of War (2018) and after the beginning of the game, when Kratos and Atreus carry out Faye's cremation. After that, she finds herself in an unknown place – Everywhen - filled with mystical creatures and deities, and, along with unusual companions, tries to get out of there. As early leaks suggested, in God of War Laufey, Faye will fight using a two-handed sword, and she will be assisted by a 'gelatinous cube' named Phranque and an enchanted ribbon named Rue, who will accompany her on her journey. The gameplay of the game also revealed that the combat system has become faster and even includes a feature with aerial attacks— which was not present in God of War since 2013.

What is also fascinating is that in Everywhen, Faye meets various gods: as the trailer shows, her paths cross with Ancient Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and Mongol/Tibetan deity Begtse. This move can significantly expand the franchise's lore, as well as potentially lay the groundwork for future installments: according to rumors, the next mainline God of War title will take players to Egypt.
