How Pearl Abyss Transformed Crimson Desert In A Short Period of Time

On April 10, Pearl Abyss, the developers of Crimson Desert, one of the loudest releases of 2026, responded to the fans in a statement, sharing their future plans for the game and what to expect in the coming months. After the rocky launch of the game in mid-March, accompanied by numerous bugs and unfinished gameplay, many gamers didn’t take their words seriously. Over time, it turns out they were wrong.

Since then, the developers have released a dozen patches for the game, which not only fixed a bunch of bugs but also added a lot of new features. A new article from Forbes reveals that after almost 2 months, Crimson Desert looks like a completely different game compared to when it first came out—and Pearl Abyss has essentially overachieved, since the game's 3-month roadmap was actually completed in 3 weeks.

Over the past couple of weeks, Crimson Desert has received features that made the game better: for example, repeat boss fights and the return of previously cleared zones with new enemies, presented in Patch Notes Version 1.05.00, have noticeably revitalized the game world. In addition to this, the game also introduced difficulty level options and many other elements that make gameplay more appealing—from new skills for characters and new pets to the ability to upgrade the camp and expand open-world activities.

Such a game transformation can be compared to the situation with No Man's Sky, where the developers at Hello Games needed years to create the game the way they wanted it to be from the start. And although it was called a disappointment when it first came out, now No Man's Sky has a huge community and lots of positive reviews. Fortunately, Pearl Abyss took much more time to make their game more appealing to players. By the way, the developers' work did not go unnoticed. After Crimson Desert sold 5 million copies, the studio rewarded its employees with a bonus of about $3,400.

Today the developers released a new update for Crimson Desert - Patch Notes Version 1.06.00. The main innovations here are the new Special Mounts and an ‘Extraction’ feature that allows players to recover materials used to refine equipment.

The studio is also working on their next title, DokeV, announced back in 2019. It's an open-world action-adventure video game featuring Dokebi—Korean folklore creatures that gain strength from people’s dreams and collide together on their adventures. The release date of the game is currently planned no earlier than 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
