GTA 6 Hackers Ready to Publish Game’s Data as Their Demands Haven’t Been Met
Last week, hacking group ShinyHunters breached the Rockstar Games database, threatening to release details about their upcoming project, Grand Theft Auto VI, unless they received a ransom by April 14. The developers confirmed the breach, stating that "the incident has no impact on our organization or our players."
The story is seeming far from over at the moment, with BBC now reporting that one of the news outlet's representatives has spoken to ShinyHunters. This hacking group is believed to be “a prolific group of English-speaking cybercriminals, thought to be in their teens, who specialize in data theft and extortion.” Although Rockstar Games does not appear to be willing to comply with the terms of the deal proposed by the hackers, ShinyHunters revealed that the stolen data “would be published online as their demands had not been met.” That means if Rockstar Games doesn't make any effort to stop the hackers, we can expect new, large-scale leaks of GTA 6.
This is likely not ShinyHunters’ final statement, as the deadline they set for Rockstar Games expires tomorrow, April 14. If they keep their word and nothing happens, and if new, previously unseen footage of GTA 6 appears online, we’ll know that the developers refused to give in to the hackers.
Grand Theft Auto VI suffered multiple leaks long before its official announcement and debut trailer reveal in December 2023, and here you can check out the history of all the big game’s leaks so far.
