Top Irish Esports Players

The Esports industry has drastically evolved. From competing with friends at home to full-blown events where the best players in the world clash for insane amounts of money, it’s clear that the competitive scene has drastically changed how we play videogames.

Of course, Ireland would be no different, as the younger generations have grown up seeing and playing their favorite videogames, which has resulted in some of the world’s best talent in some of the most reputable videogames coming from Ireland.

Although there are many individuals who proudly represent Ireland in worldwide competitions, there are some which are far better than others. It’s not based on game importance or decisions made by bookmakers in Ireland; it’s pure talent at their respective videogame.

But who are these individuals and why are they so good at their discipline?

Jordan “Jurd” Crowley

Although our first entry on this list has already retired, Jordan Crowley, also known as Jurd, must have a place in this list. A pioneer of some sort, as he was one of the first Irish players to emerge in the esports scene, Jurd is one of the most historic, if not the most, players from Ireland.

Although he may not have been amongst the best of the best, despite his impressive composure on “clutch” moments, Jurd’s skills in Call of Duty, most specifically Infinity Warfare, allowed him to earn over 250,000€ throughout his career in prize money, a considerable amount which is the most earned by an Irish esports player.

Max “Maxeew” Ng

A controversial choice, as he has represented Singapore on international events and competes on the Asian scene despite being from Irish descent, Maxeew has had a very impressive career as a Rocket League player despite his young age.

At just 22, Maxeew has been competing since he was 16, starting as a substitute on Oryx Esports and slowly climbing his way until eventually reaching KINOTROPE gaming, his last team. Currently a free agent, it will be exciting to see how Maxeew can progress in his career and improve as a Rocket League player.

Joshua “lolb0om” Juliano

The first player on this list who transitioned from one game to another is lolb0om. Although he became widely known thanks to his skills in Fortnite, lolb0om eventually decided to take his talents elsewhere and try his luck with Valorant.

Although the Irish player currently plays the game for fun and isn’t actively competing in the pro scene, his achievements whilst being a pro Fortnite player earn him a place in this list. Thanks to his excellent skills, lolb0om managed to make his way up the ranking until he eventually reached the Fortnite World Cup Final, acknowledging him amongst the 100 best Fortnite players in the World. Although he managed to only finish 58th on such event, it’s still remarkable that he managed to represent Ireland at one of the biggest esports events in history.

Justin “MiracU” McNally

Same as with Jurd, Justin McNally, also known as MiracU, is a retired Irish Esports player, with the difference that he is still representing Ireland on the big stage as a coach for the Turkish team FUT Esports at the PUBG discipline.

On such game, MiracU was lethal, winning various competitions and earning upwards of 150,000€ in prize money, close to the impressive amount earned by Jurd, who his miles ahead of every other member on this list.

Before taking his talents to PUBG, MiracU had a brief spell in the Fortnite pro player scene, when the game had just released. Eventually, when more players started to dominate the game, MiracU took his talents to PUBG, where he can still be found today.

Although MiracU hasn’t been as successful as a coach as he was as a player, he’s slowly climbing up the ranks on his way to becoming one of the best coaches in the PUBG scene.

An Exciting Future

It’s clear that the Irish esports scene is not as big as in some other countries, with many players eventually retiring or just not being good enough to be considered amongst the very best.

Still, with the emergence of new academies and new games, more young talent will appear, until eventually one becomes one of the best players in his game.

Until then, we can only wait and enjoy some of the Irish players that are part of the esports scene.
