Resident Evil Veronica Gameplay Leaked – Is It Fake or Real?

Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of the cult classic Code Veronica released by Capcom in 2000, is one of the most anticipated releases for next year. The game was announced in June at Summer Game Fest, and many expected it to be featured at Gamescom late last month, but that didn’t happen. Nevertheless, players may have gotten their first glimpse of its gameplay.

A short clip has gone viral on social media that is claimed to be a gameplay leak from Resident Evil: Veronica. It lasts just 6 seconds and shows Claire Redfield on Rockfort Island; you can also see the character’s animations, and commenters have noted that the heroine’s appearance matches the official artwork. However, this is most likely just an early build of the game, as you can check out below:

The video gives us a glimpse of the remake in motion and some of the island's environment, although it appears to be an early build.

Dusk Golem, a well-known franchise insider, also reacted to the leak. On his X page, he wrote that he doubts the leaked video is a fake created using AI. The insider points out small details, including the fire animation, and also recalls an earlier Resident Evil Veronica leak that occurred more than half a year ago. However, he also doesn’t rule out the possibility that this could be the very same leak from last year created using AI. Various opinions are also circulating in the comments and retweets. "About that Claire gameplay clip leak, I do have something to say.

So first it could be fake in the sense it's a mod to jiven up the rumor mill, since it's a modification of RE:2 Claire very clearly. But I actually don't think it's AI, & there is one other possibility. The reason I don't think it's AI is some small details like the looping fire animation is a very real video game thing I'm not sure AI has learned to replicate yet.

It could be faked, but I'm somewhat aware that like 1.5-2 years ago there was a gameplay & screenshot leak Veronica Remake in some Middle East insider circles, it was pretty contained & never made public, but that is something that happened. There is a chance it could be early alpha footage from that leak someone decided to surface now. Or could be a mod, my two suspicions.

It very clearly being a mod of RE:2 Claire & the empty environment I think is best explained by either:

• It being faked by a fan
• It be an early alpha testing map using placeholders

Really either or is possible, especially since there was an old leak a while back. There's also actually one other possibility. It could be from that Middle East leak with an AI filter over it. For some reason those circles fucking love doing that. I'm remembering before RE9 came out there was some real leaked screenshots that had an AI filter over it."

In any case, it is not worth taking the alleged leak seriously just yet, since Capcom has not issued any official comments or released any gameplay footage of Resident Evil Veronica. As previously reported, many expected to see new official footage of the game at Gamescom, especially since rumors to that effect had been circulating. According to insider Marcox, there’s a good chance this will happen at the Tokyo Game Show presentation, which will take place from September 17 to 21.

Resident Evil Veronica will release in 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
