Mafia: The Old Country Might Be Dropping in August—Thanks to a Stealthy Steam Slip
Welp, 2K might’ve just spoiled its own surprise. According to an eagle-eyed catch on Steam, Mafia: The Old Country is launching on August 8, 2025. The post with the date was quickly edited, but not before screenshots made the rounds online. It was a classic "oops" moment.
"Mafia: The Old Country will be available on August 8, 2025. Pre-orders are available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam," read the leaked Steam description.
This date was probably meant to be a mic-drop reveal at the PAX East dev panel happening on May 8. Hangar 13 is set to debut new gameplay there and give us a peek behind the curtain of the franchise’s past, present, and future. But hey—Steam got impatient.
Mafia: The Old Country is a big nostalgia move. The game acts as a prequel to the original Mafia, set in early 1900s Sicily in a fictional town called San Celeste. You’ll play as Enzo Favara, a kid who escapes the hell of sulfur mines to find a new kind of family—yep, the mob. Think "from dirt to don" type of arc.

Hangar 13's going back to its roots with this one. Forget open-world distractions—this is a tight, cinematic, linear story, just like the first two Mafia games. It’s all about that classic mob drama, not running errands across half a city.

Also, a rare win for authenticity: the game will feature voice acting in Sicilian, which is honestly kind of wild (in a good way). The devs said:
"Authenticity is at the heart of the Mafia franchise."
Of course, some folks still aren’t thrilled that there’s no full Italian dub, just Sicilian voiceover and Italian subtitles. But it’s still more than most games set in Italy ever attempt.
Tech-wise, it’s all built in Unreal Engine 5, so expect some serious visual flexing. Hangar 13 promises a big leap in graphical fidelity, and director Alex Cox sounds pretty proud of what they’ve pulled off.
Long story short: if you’re a fan of the OG Mafia vibes and want a gritty, story-first mob tale, this might be the one. August can’t come fast enough.
