Hackers "hacked" the game about hackers: Ubisoft could not hold the source code of Watch Dogs: Legion
Recently it was reported that a group of hackers calling themselves Egregor was able to gain access to the files of the developers of the Watch Dogs: Legion game. Not to be unfounded, they showed a screenshot with a folder containing computer game files.
How the hackers managed to obtain information is currently unknown. Ubisoft has already received demands from Egregor, but did not give them any answer. If Ubisoft fulfills the conditions of the hackers, then the latter will not publish the source code of Watch Dogs: Legion and the engine on which the game was made. So far Egregor has shown only 20 megabytes of stolen data.
In addition to Ubisoft, Crytek was also hit by the hacker group. Egregor got access to Arena of Fate, Warface and Gface files. Support for the social gaming network Gface, by the way, ended in 2007. Unlike the case with Ubisoft, hackers have already laid out 300 megabytes of Crytek files. They will continue to harm them until they contact the attackers and fulfill the hacker's demands.
More details about the leak should come out today. Egregor reports that none of the victims have contacted the hacker group yet. Some users believe that this news is nothing more than a PR move to attract attention. This makes some sense, especially when you consider that the attackers are very similar to the heroes of the upcoming title.
Recall that a large-scale advertising campaign was launched to draw attention to the original Watch Dogs, and a prank video was shot to heighten the effect. Its essence was that a person was given a phone and shown the possibility of hacking, after which a police patrol came and reported that it was a prank, and all these possibilities would be in Watch Dogs, which was to be released soon. For this reason, the news with the hack Ubisoft can really look like fake.
