GTA 6 Leaked Footage Is Claimed to Be From 2023 Game’s Version
The latest leak of Grand Theft Auto VI content, provided by the hacker Cyberleek, caused quite a storm on social media, as it offered (even though Take-Two has since removed most of the videos and images) a first look at gameplay, the official map, and lots of other details. Fans were convinced that this was an early build of GTA 6, and thanks to several sources, it became clear that they were right.
As user X, NikTek, pointed out, the first GTA 6 gameplay footage shows a version of the game from late 2023, as revealed in a discussion on the GTA Forum. This was also confirmed by the well-known insider TheRavenHelm, and Insider Gaming reported that the very first GTA 6 gameplay video comes from a November 2023 build of the game.
GTA 6 gameplay video leaks are not from a 2023 build.
The rumor comes from a post in GTA Forum showing the FFmpeg late 2023 date, which was thought to be the recorded date of the videos.
However the user Spider-Vice has confirmed that the ffmpeg build is from late 2023, not the date of recording itself.
"Someone or some software using an older ffmpeg build doesn't mean that's the date of the actual video"
That said, this wasn’t much of a surprise, considering that the gameplay footage looks noticeably different from how the game appears, for instance, in the second trailer released last May. It will be interesting to see if we get leaks of a later version of GTA 6 to gauge whether Rockstar Games has made any progress, but Cyberleek has confirmed that new material will be available soon. Whether this will be new gameplay footage or screenshots remains to be seen.
As for the GTA 6 leaked footage itself, the first clip shows Jason shooting a basketball into a hoop near his house. The second reveals vehicle physics, NPC interactions, and how police respond when residents are attacked. It also apparently revealed a system resembling Red Dead Redemption 2's honor mechanic, where committing crimes has consequences, and police reportedly now remember a player's appearance and vehicle. Cyberleek also shared the full in-game map.
