Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Is Positioned as a Sequel to Resident Evil 2: Remake
One of Capcom’s upcoming projects related to Resident Evil universe is the remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which is rumored to be in development for a while. Although the game is not officially confirmed yet, unlike the story expansion for this year’s Resident Evil Requiem, the potential announcement might be coming soon—specifically, during Summer Game Fest (June 5-8).
The remake of Code Veronica will reportedly be directed by Kazunori Kadoi & Yasuhiro Anpo, the same duo who directed the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4. It is also likely to include new features, and we heard the game will offer players a semi-open world on Rockford Island, a fully playable opening scene, an improved and more dynamic combat system, the possibility to switch between Claire and Chris at some point, and more.
The latest report from Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake comes from reliable Capcom insider, Dusk Golem, who previously revealed some information about the upcoming project. This time, he reveals that the game is actually being positioned as the sequel to Resident Evil 2: Remake because of Claire’s continuation story. Also, he confirmed it will be more horror-oriented rather than action in the original title, as you can check out below:
“What I've heard is Code Veronica Remake is being treated in many ways as "RE:2's spiritual successor", & Claire's continuation.
Code Veronica Remake shouldn't be (& isn't) that as it builds upon the horror. Code Veronica Remake is going in a much stronger horror direction than the original CV (still has silly stuff & action stuff, but the horror aspect is increased in the Remake), & all of Capcom's data tells them that horror is constantly the most successful, well liked, & stand out moments for players. Capcom is a very data based company, & every data point for them shows that they should embrace horror more.”
As for a story DLC to Resident Evil Requiem, according to the leaker, who previously predicted the plot of the main game, the game will feature two story expansions – one dedicated to Leon S. Kennedy and Alyssa Ashcroft, and the second to Chris Redfield and Ada Wong.
For now, Capcom hasn’t revealed anything about a possible remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica or story DLC for Requiem, so these reports should still be considered with a grain of salt.
