PlayStation New Handheld Console Specifications Revealed
Although there is no announcement from Sony yet, the rumors are circulating that the company is developing a new, powerful handheld PlayStation console, which they are planning to launch simultaneously with PlayStation 6. The new report from PlayStation insider reveals more details about it and unveils some very impressive specifications of the upcoming device.
As revealed via PlayStation leakers Moore’s Law Is Dead and Kepler2, the rumored Sony handheld console is titled Project Canis. It will reportedly be able to launch PlayStation 6 games and support backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games. The price is reportedly around $500-$700, with the release date eyed for late 2027 or early 2028. According to previous rumors, Sony is planning to launch PlayStation 6 in a holiday season of 2027.
Insiders are claiming it will be much more powerful than Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Ally X, as well as 0.5x PS5 performance with higher ray-tracing performance. As for the console’s technical specifications, Project Canis will be powered by a 3nm chip, 4x Zen 6c cores, and 12-20 RDNA 5 CUs at 1.6-2 GHz, and it also includes a MicroSD slot, M.2 SSD slot, haptic vibration, dual mics, a touchscreen, and dockability via a USB-C port.
For now, Sony hasn’t revealed official details about PlayStation 6 and the rumored handheld portable console, so this report should be considered with a grain of salt. This week we also heard a report from one of the sources, YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, that PlayStation 6, just like Project Canis, will receive backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5.
