According to information from SteamDB, the Steam store listing for Crimson Desert was updated on March 12 to include the Denuvo anti-tamper protection system.

The timing of the announcement has drawn particular attention. Pearl Abyss confirmed the presence of Denuvo just one week before the game’s release, at a moment when community interest was at its highest and pre-orders were still ongoing.

Community Backlash on Steam

The response from players was swift. Steam forums quickly filled with discussions from disappointed fans who stated they were losing interest in the game, removing it from their wishlists, or canceling their pre-orders.

Much of the criticism stems from Denuvo’s long-standing reputation within the gaming community. While the technology is widely known for its effectiveness in preventing piracy, it is also often associated with concerns about potential performance impacts, even though such claims are not always confirmed in every case.
