Blizzard Announced New StarCraft Video Game Releasing in 2030

The rumors have finally been confirmed. At BlizzCon, which is currently taking place in California, Blizzard announced a new StarCraft video game, releasing the debut trailer and revealing the first details—including a release window, which, incidentally, isn’t expected to be in the next few years.

The three-minute trailer showcases cinematic scenes and hints at just how intense the new StarCraft will be. The biggest news is that the series is moving away from its traditional real-time strategy formula. The new game will be a full-fledged open-world shooter, and its release is scheduled for 2030. The platform lineup and the full title of the new StarCraft have not yet been revealed, but you can check out the debut trailer below:

Users also noted that the trailer conveys the following message: “The sons and daughters of the Dominion answered the call. When mankind needed them most, their courage held the line.” This appears to be the main plot hook; however, no details about it—or about the gameplay—are known at this time. Given the release date, the new StarCraft is likely still in the early stages of development.

Previous rumors suggested that former Far Cry developer Dan Hay is reportedly leading the development of a new StarCraft title, which is also featuring Unreal Engine 5. Additionally, it has been reported the game will feature a co-op mode, and Nexon is reportedly in talks to acquire the rights to the franchise, with the aim of beginning full-scale StarCraft 3 development in the future. So far, not all of this information has been officially confirmed.
