🎮 Fergusson’s Impact on Diablo

Diablo 4, released in 2023, debuted to mostly positive reviews. While its endgame content and post-launch support faced early criticism, subsequent updates — along with the Vessel of Hatred expansion — helped keep the game thriving years later.

Fergusson joined Blizzard in 2020 after leading major projects at Black Tusk/The Coalition, where he oversaw Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Gears of War 4, and Gears 5. His move from Gears to Diablo was a surprise at the time — and now, after five years, his Blizzard chapter comes to a close.

📝 Official Departure Announcement

In a statement shared on Twitter, Fergusson confirmed that he is leaving both Blizzard and the Diablo franchise. He assured fans that:

  • The Diablo teams are “set up for success.”
  • An “exciting slate of releases” is on the horizon.

While Fergusson didn’t disclose his next career step, he expressed pride in what was achieved during his tenure and enthusiasm for the franchise’s future.

  • Ongoing updates for Diablo Immortal (mobile) and Diablo 4 (PC & consoles)
  • A second expansion for Diablo 4 expected in 2026 (rumored to feature a new class and region)

Industry speculation also points to a Switch 2 port of Diablo 4, potentially with mouse control support, following Blizzard’s previous success in bringing Diablo 3 to the original Switch.

With Rod Fergusson stepping away, the Diablo franchise enters a new era — one built on the foundation he helped establish, but guided by a new leadership team for the battles ahead in Sanctuary.
