Assassin’s Creed Shadows Releases First Post-Launch Update

Set in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows follows the journey of Yasuke, an African-born samurai, and Naoe, a skilled shinobi, as they become entangled in the age-old battle between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order. The game has been widely praised for its stunning open-world design and dual-character gameplay, allowing players to choose between traditional stealth mechanics with Naoe or a brute-force combat approach with Yasuke. However, while generally well-received, its review scores have fallen short compared to some of the franchise’s most beloved titles.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.01 Patch Notes

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Releases First Post-Launch Update 1

Despite some criticisms, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been acknowledged as a strong addition to the series, and Ubisoft Quebec is expected to continue refining the game through ongoing post-launch updates. The first hotfix update (1.01) has now been released, focusing primarily on stability improvements rather than introducing new features. The patch size is 8.88GB, and the update notes list the following fixes:

  • Stabilization – Addressed various global issues affecting game stability.
  • Photo Mode Crash Fix – Resolved a bug where fetching photos to display on the world map could cause the game to crash.
  • Photo Mode Crash Fix – Fixed an issue where taking a photo in Photo Mode could lead to a crash.

This hotfix follows a pre-launch update from March 20, in which Ubisoft removed the ability to damage shrines and temples in the game after public backlash—an issue that even drew attention from the Prime Minister of Japan.

More Assassin’s Creed Shadows updates are expected in the coming weeks as Ubisoft continues to address feedback and optimize the game for all platforms.
