Roblox Ends Support for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1

Fans have discovered that Roblox has officially discontinued support for versions of the platform running on Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Since its launch in 2006, Roblox has grown into one of the world's most popular gaming and game creation platforms. With a player base exceeding 100 million users globally, some studies even suggest that more than half of American children play Roblox regularly. However, a small segment of players is now losing access to the beloved platform.

Initially launched as a PC-exclusive game creation platform, Roblox has since expanded to multiple consoles and devices. The platform debuted on iOS and Android in the early 2010s, followed by a VR version for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro in 2023. In late 2023, Roblox finally became available on PlayStation consoles, launching on both PS4 and PS5 in October. Despite its continuous expansion, a recent update has ended access for a dwindling number of players on older Windows systems.

A Reddit post by user Tailsgenesis on the official Roblox subreddit confirmed the discontinuation of Roblox support on Windows 7. The post served as a farewell to the platform's presence on Windows 7, which began with its release for the operating system in 2009. This marks the end of an era, as Roblox had already ceased support for Windows 8, with Windows 8.1 joining the list. The official termination of support for Roblox on Windows 7 took effect on January 16.

A Natural Shift Towards Modern Systems

While the end of support for Roblox on Windows 7 is a bittersweet moment for some fans, it is far from unexpected. Many developers have been phasing out support for older versions of Windows in recent years. For instance, Rockstar discontinued its Rockstar Games Launcher on Windows 7 in early 2024, and Microsoft itself stopped providing updates for Windows 7 in 2022, including security patches and Microsoft 365 support.

Roblox’s decision to sunset these older systems aligns with the platform's ongoing growth and evolution. In recent years, Roblox has introduced numerous officially licensed game experiences, such as One Piece Grand Arena, created in collaboration with Toei and Eiichiro Oda. Other major franchises like My Hero Academia and Payday have also brought licensed content to the platform, often in partnership with Roblox creators.

As Roblox approaches its 20th anniversary next year, fans are saying goodbye to the game on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, while the platform continues to innovate and reach new audiences across modern devices.
