Starfield Confirmed as an Xbox Play Anywhere Title - Seamless Gaming Across Xbox Consoles and PC
A recent update to one of Starfield's online store listings has confirmed an exciting feature for Bethesda's highly anticipated RPG. Starfield will be an Xbox Play Anywhere title from its launch, allowing players to enjoy the game seamlessly on all their Xbox consoles and PCs running Windows 10 or a newer version of Microsoft's operating system.
While this feature wasn't explicitly confirmed when Starfield's pre-orders went live in June, its inclusion is hardly surprising, given that Bethesda is now a part of Microsoft's family through ZeniMax Media's acquisition.
Xbox Play Anywhere, introduced by Microsoft in 2016, enables players to purchase a game only once and then access it across all compatible platforms. This functionality also supports cross-platform saves, making it convenient for gamers to switch between systems during their playthroughs.
The official Starfield page in the Xbox app was recently updated to include the Xbox Play Anywhere tag, as reported by Insider Gaming. As Microsoft owns ZeniMax Media, many expected Starfield to adopt this feature, following the pattern of most Bethesda-published multi-platform games.
However, it's worth noting that Xbox's official website list of Xbox Play Anywhere titles does not yet include Starfield. This might suggest that the store listing update was made prematurely, but with five weeks remaining until the game's market debut, there's ample time for Microsoft to update its database.
While Starfield will also be available on Steam, it's important to remember that the Xbox Play Anywhere support is exclusive to the Microsoft and Xbox Store versions. Gamers deeply invested in the Xbox ecosystem can benefit from the convenience of buying the title directly from Microsoft to maximize their gaming experience.
While a high-end gaming PC is likely to deliver the best performance for Starfield, the game is expected to offer a satisfying experience on consoles as well. Bethesda Director Todd Howard's positive comments about playing the game on an Xbox Series S and Xbox Game Studios Head Matt Booty's assurance of a polished technical experience are encouraging signs for console gamers eagerly awaiting Starfield's launch.
