New Report Shows Low Sales of Sony's Exclusives on PC for 2026

As we know, earlier this year it was reported that Sony is officially moving away from the strategy of releasing their single-player titles on PC, like they did over the last 6 years, and instead their exclusive titles will remain exclusive titles. That report has left the PC gamers disappointed, but the reason why Sony has made this decision is simple—it's all about money.

We’ve already seen some figures indicating roughly how much revenue Sony has generated from releasing its games on PC, and the results, to put it mildly, leave much to be desired. For example, Jerry Liu, a former campaign employee who served as PC Planner & Insights Manager at PlayStation for two years and six months, revealed that Sony has earned up to $300 million over the past three years from porting its games to PC.

A new joint report by The Game Business and Ampere provides an even more detailed look at why Sony made this decision. Data for 2026 shows the number of copies sold for the company’s former exclusives, where only one game managed to surpass the 500,000-copy mark—Ghost of Tsushima (710,000)—while other titles sold far fewer:

  • God of War: Ragnarok - 300,000 copies sold
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2 - 260,000 copies sold
  • Horizon Forbidden West - 230,000 copies sold

Analysts also note that Sony likely no longer sees the point in releasing its games on PC, not only because of low profits but also due to the potential risk of weakening its own ecosystem. There were also rumors that Sony was allegedly considering developing its own PC launcher to avoid competing with Project Helix, but Jason Shrayer of Bloomberg debunked this, reporting once again that Sony had abandoned plans to release its projects on PC.
