New Tomb Raider Remakes Are Rumored to Be In Development

Next February, Crystal Dynamics, in collaboration with Flying Wild Hog, will release Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis—a remake of the original 1996 game that also serves as a reimagining of the franchise. Gameplay footage promises yet another incredible adventure for the legendary Lara Croft, and a new report suggests that the studios are already working on developing new remakes.

According to a new report from PlayStation Inside, which has sources at Flying Wild Hog, the studio—in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics—has already begun preliminary work on the remakes of two more classic titles in the series: Tomb Raider II (1997) and Tomb Raider III (1998). For now, there’s no talk of full-scale development, as both teams are focused on Legacy of Atlantis, but once it’s released in February, they’ll be able to consider this in more detail. However, for now this report should be considered with a grain of salt.

NEWS: According to our sources at Flying Wild Hog, the studio co-developing the remake of the first Tomb Raider with Crystal Dynamics, remakes of the rest of the original trilogy (TR2 and TR3) are already planned, without even waiting for the release of Legacy of Atlantis.

In addition to Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Crystal Dynamics is also developing Tomb Raider: Catalyst—the next mainline game in the series—which, as previously confirmed, is a sequel not to Shadow of the Tomb Raider but to Tomb Raider: Underworld, released in 2008. The exact release date remains unknown at this point, but a recent financial report from Embracer confirmed the 2027/28 fiscal year as the release window —that is, between April 2027 and March 2028. Lara Croft will also be adapted into a TV series —Amazon is working on the project, and Sophie Turner, known for her roles in Game of Thrones and X-Men, will play the lead role.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will release on February 12, 2027, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
