GTA 6 Vice City Won’t Be the Same — What Fans Should Expect
Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series are set to return to Vice City in GTA 6, revisiting the iconic Miami-inspired location for the first time in years. While excitement is high, expectations may need to be adjusted—because this version of the city is likely to look very different from what players remember.
A Familiar Setting, Reimagined
Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 will take place in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, offering a much larger and more detailed world. Although the city’s signature vibe—sun-soaked beaches, nightlife, and crime—will likely remain, its overall design is expected to be significantly updated.

Rockstar’s History of Reinventing Cities
The GTA series is known for revisiting three major locations: Liberty City, Vice City, and Los Santos. However, each return has come with major changes.
For example:
- In GTA 5, Los Santos was massively expanded and reworked compared to its San Andreas version, with entire neighborhoods renamed or redesigned.
- In GTA 4, Liberty City underwent a complete transformation, including new districts, mirrored layouts, and a more realistic urban structure.
These changes made older versions of these cities almost unrecognizable—suggesting that Vice City will receive a similar overhaul.
A City Stuck in the Past—Until Now
Another key factor is the timeline. Previous appearances of Vice City, including GTA: Vice City and Vice City Stories, were set in the 1980s, during the city’s peak era. Outside of brief mentions, the location hasn’t been revisited in the modern timeline.
As a result, many of the classic locations from the original game may no longer exist or could appear drastically changed in GTA 6. While some nostalgic elements may remain, the city itself will likely reflect a modern-day setting in 2026.

What to Expect
Vice City in GTA 6 is expected to feel both familiar and entirely new—a modern reinterpretation rather than a direct recreation. For longtime fans, this means revisiting the same iconic location, but through a completely different lens.
