What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play

This week, Sony confirmed early rumors that first surfaced on Reddit, announcing a new State of Play that will take place just a few hours away. According to the press release, the show will feature news and announcements from both PlayStation Studios and third-party developers, meaning another major showcase is on the way, and there's plenty to look forward to.

Fans are already speculating about what games might show up, and given the packed release schedule this September and October, new footage seems likely for titles like Silent Hill: Townfall, Marvel's Wolverine, Control Resonant, Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition, and Phantom Blade Zero, alongside the already-confirmed appearance of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, coming next spring. Beyond those, there are several games without confirmed release dates that could realistically make an appearance too—and below you will find out exactly which ones.

God of War Laufey or/and God of War Trilogy Remake

What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play 1

Back in July, Santa Monica Studio confirmed God of War: Laufey is launching next February. Since the game was first announced at June's State of Play with over 20 minutes of gameplay, it would make sense for a new trailer to show up here as a reminder of one of PlayStation 5's most anticipated upcoming exclusives.

Santa Monica has another card to play too: God of War Trilogy Remake, also announced at a State of Play, though back in February. It's believed to still be in early development, but enough time has passed since the reveal that even a short teaser would be a welcome surprise.

Break In/Fairgame$

What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play 2

Despite leaning heavily into single-player titles lately, Sony's still invested in live-service shooters like FairGame$ from Haven Studios. Shortly before June's State of Play, Sony registered a trademark for "Brake In," widely believed to relate to the shooter, possibly hinting at a rebrand after FairGame$ reportedly struggled during early testing. If Sony's still committed to the project, a more detailed reveal with an updated direction could be on the way.

Until Dawn 2

What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play 3

Until Dawn 2 was also announced back during State of Play in June, with Firesprite confirming a 2027 release. Speculation about it appearing at this show picked up after insider NateTheHate claimed the game would launch before Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog's rumored new IP targeting the second half of 2027, so there's a decent chance of a new trailer here too.

Marvel’s Iron Man

Some may also remember a Marvel's Iron Man trailer, from EA and Motive Studios, leaking late last month. The developers responded by promising an official reveal soon, and given how long the game's been in development, State of Play feels like a fitting place to finally show it properly.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play 5

Another game first announced at a PlayStation event, way back in 2011, is the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. The game changed developers since then, with some of mechanics expected to be cut and changed, and rumors suggest it could finally resurface this year. Given the original reveal happened nearly five years ago in September, a re-announcement here would be pretty fitting and a great moment for fans.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

What Games Could Be Revealed at State of Play 6

The real headliner, though, could end up being Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog's new IP first announced back in 2024. Rumors about this show have pointed to it as the centerpiece since the beginning, with speculation about a gameplay trailer growing after Naughty Dog confirmed motion capture had wrapped. With a rumored release window of summer or fall 2027, the game is presumably well into development at this point, and fans are eager for a proper look. Anyway, we will find out soon whether that reveal actually happens.

State of Play is set for September 3 at 6:00 a.m. PT/ 9:00 a.m. ET/ 3:00 p.m. CEST/ 10:00 p.m. JST. A separate State of Play Japan follows shortly after, focused on games from Japan and the broader Asian market.
