Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Reveals Alternative Ending of Phantom Liberty DLC

Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 concludes the story of main character V and allows players to choose a new ending path. It’s also one of the best DLCs over the last few years; however, it could have been a little bit different, according to the developers.

During the conversation on BlueSky social media, creative director of Cyberpunk 2077 and upcoming sequel Igor Sarzhynskii reveals Phantom Liberty for Cyberpunk 2077 initially had a much darker and even weirder epilogue; however, developers have made changes when they realized the game’s main story was solidified, as you can check below:

“The new Phamtom Liberty epilogue was once completely different. Much darker and weirder. As our main Phantom Liberty story solidified we found out the epilogue doesn't really fit tonally, thematically. We changed it to the current 'Tower' ending.

But we did get a few cycles into the previous design. There were locations, scenes, systems. were they all 'cut'? Yes. Did the game benefit from it? For sure. Or our character progression system. We simplified it in a patch - and now it's tigther and better. Not always more means better.

To sum up: a game is a collective psyche multidimensional interactive engineered art piece. A wonder. A world within a world. super complex. In shaping it things added. Things get pushed down the work queue. Things get changed. The goal is always the same: to create the best possible thing - on time.”
