FromSoftware Rejected Multiple Approaches for Bloodborne Franchise
After the closure of Bluepoint Games by Sony at the end of February, it’s been reported that the studio wanted to make a remake of 2015’s Bloodborne. Although Sony has given the green light to develop the project, the final word was to come from FromSoftware—and it was rejected.
The fans have been disappointed with that report, considering Bluepoint Games has previously made some great remakes like Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. But it seems like FromSoftware is considering the Bloodborne franchise as untouchable. According to former PlayStation developer Brandon Sheffield, who is now director of Necrosoft Games, not only Bluepoint Games but around ten different studios (including his own) are trying to make contact with FromSoftware over expanding the Bloodborne franchise. He doesn’t mention it specifically, but, as he revealed in a now-deleted post on Bluesky social media, Sheffield replied:
“I could find you 10 companies that have pitched a Bloodborne sequel, spinoff, or remake, including my own. It's just not going to happen unless FromSoftware decides they want to do it.”
Over the past few years, we heard a lot of speculation and rumors about Bloodborne’s possible remake, remaster, sequel, and even port to PC, but as long as FromSoftware is uncertain about the game, it’s pretty unlikely the franchise will be expanded in some way soon.
