Afeela 1 Integrates PlayStation Remote Play Into Its In-Car System

Sony and Honda have confirmed that their first jointly developed vehicle will support PlayStation Remote Play, allowing passengers to stream PS4 and PS5 games while traveling. The feature will debut in the Afeela 1, the inaugural model from Sony Honda Mobility, a joint venture formed in 2022 to develop electric vehicles and new in-car experiences.

The Afeela 1 is scheduled to launch in California in 2026. PlayStation Remote Play will be built directly into the vehicle’s in-vehicle infotainment system. To use it, players must already own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console connected at home. Games will be streamed from that console rather than run locally in the car.

Sony Honda Mobility says the system is designed for passengers, not drivers. The vehicle will include a large integrated display and a premium audio setup suited for gaming. Users are expected to bring their own PlayStation controller, as no built-in controller has been announced. The company clarified that this implementation is separate from cloud streaming via PlayStation Plus and does not allow direct cloud access to games.

Izumi Kawanishi, representative director, president, and COO of Sony Honda Mobility, described the feature as part of a broader strategy to redefine in-car time.

“The introduction of PS Remote Play embodies Afeela’s vision for mobility: transforming the traveling space into a captivating and emotional one,” he said.

“Through this integration, we are elevating the customer's entire travel experience to an unprecedented level of entertainment.”— Izumi Kawanishi

In-vehicle gaming is not new. BMW introduced casual games in its cars in 2022, controlled via smartphones, but Afeela’s approach targets full console experiences rather than lightweight diversions. The success of the feature will depend on connection stability, latency, and how well Remote Play performs in real-world driving conditions.
