Sony May Not Receive a Single "GOTY" Nominee at The Game Awards 2026
The Game Awards ceremony will take place on December 10, but now, with most of the year behind, it's possible to make some early predictions about which games might be nominated for Game of the Year in 2026. And according to a new report, for the first time in many years, no Sony game may make the list.
A new report from Polygon states that, for the first time in 11 years, Sony may not receive a “Game of the Year” nomination at the upcoming The Game Awards show. Lots of people had high hopes Marvel's Wolverine, which launches tomorrow, would be that title, but last week critics released their reviews, which were lower than expected. Currently, the game has a score of 77 on Metacritic and is the second-lowest-rated PlayStation Studios game after Concord.
Nevertheless, Sony has an ace up its sleeve with Saros, a game released this spring by Housemarque; however, in 2021, the studio's title Returnal didn't make the cut for the “Game of the Year” nomination, so for now, it's too early to make any predictions—but the chances are definitely still there.
It’s also worth noting that Sony games have won the top award at The Game Awards three times: God of War in 2018, The Last of Us Part II in 2020, and Astro Bot in 2024. And last year, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was nominated for the award.
As for Marvel's Wolverine, the game will release on September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5. You can also check out which characters might appear or get mentioned in the game.
