Marvel’s Wolverine Has Become One of the Lowest Rated PlayStation Games Ever – Only Concord Is Behind
Marvel's Wolverine, the latest PlayStation 5 single-player exclusive from Insomniac Games, launches next week. The review embargo lifted yesterday, and while reviews have generally leaned positive, the scores have turned out surprisingly modest for a PlayStation Studios release.
Push Square recently pointed out that, out of 21 PlayStation-published titles, Marvel's Wolverine ranks 20th by critic score. Its current Metacritic score sits at 78, which isn't bad on its own, and Days Gone Remastered, released last April, sits at the exact same number. What stands out more is that the only game ranking lower is Concord, one of gaming's biggest flops, sitting at 62. Seen next to that, Marvel's Wolverine's score raises a few eyebrows.
The gap becomes even clearer when comparing it to Insomniac's other work, especially its other Marvel titles. For comparison: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sits at 90, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered at 87, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales at 85, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, another studio’s title, has 88.
That said, most critics still found plenty to like in Marvel's Wolverine, particularly the combat system, the emotional storytelling that captures Logan's journey well, and its linear structure. The gameplay, though, reportedly lacks variety, and the game overall doesn't feel especially ambitious. You can also check out which characters might appear or get mentioned in the game.
Marvel’s Wolverine releases on September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
