Fallout: New Vegas Receives 18GB HD Texture Pack From Modder WestAard
A new 18GB HD texture pack for Fallout: New Vegas has been released by modder WestAard. The project, called the FNV Texture Upscale Project, overhauls all of the base game’s textures using AI upscaling techniques while maintaining the original art style.
To achieve this, WestAard relied on chaiNNer, a node-based upscaling program. The textures were upscaled by four times their original resolution, giving the game a sharper look while avoiding the washed-out results that can come from aggressive upscaling. The current release only covers the main game, but future updates are expected to expand support to all DLC packs.

The installation process is straightforward, requiring users to drop the new “Textures” folder into the Fallout: New Vegas Data directory. Comparison screenshots released alongside the mod highlight the difference, with environmental assets and surfaces appearing much more detailed. Despite the visual boost, Fallout: New Vegas still suffers from its outdated lighting system. An RTX Remix Mod is being developed but remains in the early stages.
This new release joins a growing library of mods that enhance the 2010 RPG. Existing projects include real-time reflections, expanded AI behaviors, improved collisions and meshes, and mods that add anomalies inspired by the STALKER series. Others focus on expanding the game world, like the Visuals Improved Content Expanded Mod, which makes the Vegas strip feel more like a bustling city.

The community has also produced major fan-made expansions, including Fallout: Broken City, Fallout Van Buren Remake, Fallout: Nuevo Mexico, and the Star Wars Open Worlds project. Alongside these, DLC-sized mods are already available for players seeking new quests and content.
With the FNV Texture Upscale Project, Fallout: New Vegas continues to evolve through community work, offering players both visual and gameplay upgrades that extend the life of the game well beyond its original release.
